I Wanna Be Adored

I wasn't unpopular in high school, but I certainly wasn't popular. I was unknown, and that isn't a bad thing, it is what it is - if you post a video on social media and no one "likes" it, that doesn't mean nobody liked it, they just didn't know about it. Now, I don't understand all the algorithms and all that jazz to get things seen by the masses, but we all know what it is like in high school wanting to be liked, be seen etc. Well, I was painfully insecure in some ways, but I knew what I wanted in others and I self consciously snuck in my statement on things that were important to me. So crying in my room because I thought no one liked me didn't stop me from doing public speaking about forestry, for example. I digress. I had 2 birthday parties as a kid where I could invite my friends. One was my ninth birthday, and it was at that awkward age where "pin the tail on the donkey" wasn't exactly appropriate, but we weren't necessarily old enough for more mature games. Anyway, it was an unmemorable day. The other was my 16th birthday, and it was an unstructured hangout in the back yard around the fire. The best gift I received was a mix tape from a friend I wasn't close with, but really admired. Brian was smart and not (outwardly) afraid to be himself - so he shared his music with me, even if it wasn't what everyone else was listening to. And so Brian, thank you so much for giving me and my family the gift of The Stone Roses. There was another notable artist, but I'll get to that another time. I am reluctant to buy new records for myself, but I am so glad Kyle assured me I should buy this one, because I love it!

Okay, let's to the artistic part of today, which is a bit of a disappointment. I found this cool box in the crawl space and thought it would be perfect to pour and refinish, so after sanding it down, I poured the lid last night and stain/polyed the bottom today. Well, both were unsuccessful. The veneer on the lid warped as the paint dried, so it looks rippled on the surface. I decided to continue with refinishing the box anyway because I like the painting regardless. However, I just noticed that despite sanding to the bare wood with three different grits of sandpaper, applying wood conditioner and applying a thin coat of product, and reapplying 4 hours later, all as instructed, the finish has slumped and it will need to be sanded down and redone. I don't know if I should bother, since the top is messed up too - I should probably just abandon it.

I will see if the finish will dry and I'll decide, its going to be a time consuming and probably expensive fix for something that might never sell and always be obviously defective. My plan was to put a usb charge hub in it so you can charge your devices in style. Oh well.
