One Sided Records

ree

It occurred to me as I was listening to Queen City Kids that I know the songs on side B, but I am not familiar with the other side of the record. The only memory I have of this record is the cover, which fascinated me. I have to be honest, I've wanted a shrink wrap dress ever since then. Obviously my parents listened to the record, and I am pretty sure Excitement of Love was a favourite. If it wasn't, it damn well should have been because it is a cool song! Very dark but I really like it. Down Again is also a great song!

I didn't mind the first side, but it got me to thinking about two other records that we only listened to one side.

Joe Jackson's Night and Day, we only listened to the Day Side. Listening to it today, I actually find the songs a little annoying on the Night Side, except Steppin' Out, which I have loved for a long time. I listened to it 3 times today, and it's starting to grow on me, but as much as I love Joe Jackson, I do find some of the themes he explores a little jarring. But Real Men is a great song with a really great message that is so relevant to today's issues with the prejudices against's race and gender identity. Cancer is actually one of Joe's more "jarring" songs, but it is just so damn true.

The Day the Earth Caught Fire by City Boy, is a favourite for me, but only side one. I listened to the other side a couple times today, and its a typical rock record, but there is nothing that grabs me. This record is one that Kyle never really understood I would like, he never listened to it with me or anything. Well, he brought in our vintage turntable cabinet to the repair shop, and that record happened to be the only one left in the cabinet, so Kyle was forced to test the player with it. And he was totally impressed, which made me so happy. No one talks about this band, and it was another one of my parent's records that was only for me and my family. But this record, and the four preceding it, was produced by Mutt Lange, so they probably had more of a following than I would know about.

Oh, the disaster!

Its always hard to be motivated to create when your space is a disaster. I cleaned up enough to day to definitely do some arting tomorrow. I plan on doing a bunch of ornament sets and a big "canvas" (it's the discarded coffee table from the Long &McQuade Lesson Centre, but I plan on just attaching wire to the back and making it a wall hanging. My actual coffee table is also a discarded L&M coffee table of the same model.)

I still love this painting even though I look at it every day.
